Bedford Borough achieved a quadruple success last month at the Improvement East Inclusion Awards.

Organised by Improvement East through the Regional Improvement and Innovation Alliances (RIIA) programme, the awards promote mainstream educational inclusion across 11 local authorities in the Eastern Region.

Four of the finalists were linked to Bedford Borough Council’s SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) system.

Bedford Borough’s Team Around the School pilot scheme, a multi-agency service led by the Council to provide early targeted interventions for students, was winner in the Early Intervention award.

Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum was winner for the Co-production Charter award.

Bedford Borough Educational Psychology Service was a finalist in the Workforce category.

And Wilstead Primary School was a finalist in the Partnerships category.

Cllr Jane Walker, Portfolio Holder for Valuing Families: Children’s Services said;

“I’m delighted at this recognition of the hard work and dedication of so many people, both in and around the Council, to improve the lives of our children and young people with SEND.

“There were 16 finalists, so to have three from the Council as well as the Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum illustrated how every day they go above and beyond. Congratulations to them all.”
